I just returned from an amazing trip to Walt Disney World with 15 great high school students and some of their family members. We were there to participate in some Disney Youth Education Series and Disney Performing Arts workshops focusing on theatre arts, but also had the chance to spend a lot of time just playing around in the theme parks. I always like to do something special for my youth groups, and last year we all fell in love with the Fantasmic Dining Event, which is available for group bookings of 25+. While Fantasmic was rained out this year, we still had the opportunity to enjoy a great private dinner, and we all had a blast! Read on for some details about the dinner package, and why I think it is a great option for a group!
If you’ve ever been to Fantasmic at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you may have noticed the gated patios at the very top of the amphitheatre. These patios are typically where Disney holds their Fantasmic Dinners. They are in a great location for viewing the show following dinner. The downside is the constant foot traffic between the patios and the general seating area. However, it is elevated so there are really no big issues. A buffet is set up at the rear of the patio, with tables and chairs for your party, complete with some Disney decorations. There are several different menus you can choose from, and for our group I went with the “Teen Night Out” which features a little bit of everything. Your party has roughly 45 minutes to enjoy dinner before Fantasmic begins, and can continue enjoying their meal during the show. When the show is over so is your event!
As I said, this year weather was not on our side. So, our event was moved indoors to the Disney Junior stage, which was actually very cool. Our party had the entire auditorium to ourselves. The buffet was set up on one side, with tables and chairs to the other and plenty of space for the kids to dance around to the music they had playing in the space (all Disney favorites of course). The couple of students who had also gone on the previous trip actually stated that while they were bummed they didn’t get to see Fantasmic, they much prefered the dinner held in the Disney Junior space as opposed to the Fantasmic private patios. It was very intimate and the kids felt like they could cut loose and really have fun. And, I’m not going to lie, my 2-year-old was in heaven being in front of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for dinner. We had the same Teen’s Night Out buffet, which features things like buffalo chicken tenders, garden salad, nacho bar, macaroni and cheese and pizza, plus everyone’s favorite Mickey Bars and Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches for dessert.
Disney has many different options for group dining events; they range from dessert only buffet to full catered meals, and many take place during the nightly fireworks shows. There are events for students, weddings, family reunions, you name it! The groups department exists to ensure that groups travelling to Walt Disney World, regardless of why, have the opportunity to experience something special. The kids that went on either of these trips will tell you that this was one of their favorite moments of the trip, and one they will remember for a long time.
